Afghanistan signed and ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2012. This has led to an uptick in NGOs and visibility for Afghans with war-related injuries and disabilities but has almost entirely left out those with mental disabilities, despite having policies in place to care for this community.
Window of Hope , a center in Kabul that takes in children who have lost their parents or have been abandoned by their families, is one of a handful of places for these children to receive care.
